🌿 Introducing another face behind the FLOW Partnership - Laureen! Laureen is a historian and master’s student in History at the Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa, specializing in Environmental History and agri-food systems. Her research examines the socio-environmental impacts of cattle ranching in Paraná, with a focus on environmental infractions (IBAMA/ICMBio) and sustainability indicators. Working with the FLOW Team in Brazil she is currently investigating the erva-mate production chain in the 20th century and its implications for traditional communities. As President of the Center for the Development and Education of Traditional Erva-Mate Systems (CEDErva ), Laureen advocates for sustainable practices rooted in local knowledge. He is investigating how communication and knowledge sharing about climate-smart farming methods can be made more effective through the use of community radio programmes. 🌱 Meet the faces of the FLOW Partnership: Gustavo Gatti! 🌱 Gustavo joins our team as a PhD student at the University of Guelph, bringing experience working with non-profits in nature conservation helping teams to plan, implement, monitor, evaluate, and adapt their initiatives. For his PhD research, Gustavo is interested in the environmental, social, and economic impacts of alternative food production systems. 🇱🇰 Introducing the Sri Lanka FLOW Project! 🇱🇰 We are excited to announce another region joining the Food Learning and Growing Partnership. Sri Lanka is a nation with a rich agricultural heritage, but has relied heavily on synthetic chemicals so that today only 5% of arable land was being farmed understand sustainable production systems. In 2021, the government made the bold decision to ban chemical fertilizers and pesticides as a step towards transforming the food system. However, without sufficient support and alternatives, this move led to widespread food insecurity. As part of the FLOW Partnership, we’re exploring participatory governance to identify practical, community-driven solutions that will help farmers transition to more resilient, organic farming methods. By collaborating with local and international partners, we aim to create a food system that is equitable, sustainable, and resilient.
