On April 5, 2025, a one-day workshop was held at St. Agnes Okuodo Secondary School in Nyatike Subcounty, Migori County, bringing together local farmer groups to build capacity in sustainable food systems and climate resilience. The event, attended by grassroots farming organizations, focused on knowledge-sharing and practical training in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, climate-smart farming, and inclusive value chains.
From the report: “The Karungu Workshop 2025 brought together three key farmer groups: Aminyasa Group, Oywa Ngori, and Nyanam Ratek Tich for a dynamic and participatory learning event aimed at strengthening sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Nyatike, Migori County. The workshop focused on thematic areas including climate-smart agriculture, regenerative farming practices, biodiversity conservation, sustainable nutrition, value addition, and inclusivity in agricultural systems. Through interactive discussions, farmers co-developed solutions to local challenges and gained practical strategies to enhance productivity and sustainability. The workshop was guided by four central objectives:
- To promote environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive farming practices.
- To build the capacity of local farmers in climate change mitigation and regenerative agriculture.
- To encourage the preservation and application of indigenous knowledge for biodiversity conservation.
- To foster equity and inclusivity within agricultural value chains.”
