💡 How can we create real change in our food systems? It starts with local energy and innovation—but it needs national and global support to thrive. 🌍

In our recent webinar on Serving the Public: The Food Revolution in Hospitals, Schools, and Prisons, panelists discussed the need for an integrated, values-based approach to public procurement that aligns with policies supporting sustainable food production and consumption Dr. Kevin Morgan highlighted that sustainable food system transformation requires both grassroots ingenuity and strong policy frameworks at the national level.

Local solutions need to be not only supported but also defended on a larger scale. 🔗 Watch the full discussion online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4bj-Ofg4bQ

Elodie Valette interviews Kevin Morgan about his work leading up to the publication of his recently published book, "Serving the Public: the good food revolution in schools, hospitals, and prisons".

In the conversation Kevin Morgan highlights:
🏨 Public Procurement as a Game-Changer: Schools, hospitals, and prisons have real potential to promote sustainability, health, and social equity through food purchasing decisions.

🍎 Engaging Communities in Food Systems: Community involvement is key! Schools in Malmö and other cities show how co-designing menus with students and parents ensures food is both sustainable and enjoyed.

🥗 Avoiding Green Gentrification: Sustainable food must be accessible to all. Kevin critiques movements that inadvertently create an exclusionary food system and advocates for inclusivity in food movements.

🍽️ Integrated Food System Strategies: A holistic approach is necessary—public procurement, local production, and consumer engagement must all work together to create effective, long-lasting food system change.

🇱🇰 Introducing the Sri Lanka FLOW Project! 🇱🇰

We are excited to announce another region joining the Food Learning and Growing Partnership. Sri Lanka is a nation with a rich agricultural heritage, but has relied heavily on synthetic chemicals so that today only 5% of arable land was being farmed understand sustainable production systems.

In 2021, the government made the bold decision to ban chemical fertilizers and pesticides as a step towards transforming the food system. However, without sufficient support and alternatives, this move led to widespread food insecurity.

As part of the FLOW Partnership, we’re exploring participatory governance to identify practical, community-driven solutions that will help farmers transition to more resilient, organic farming methods. By collaborating with local and international partners, we aim to create a food system that is equitable, sustainable, and resilient.
