In the sixth episode of Vozes do Mate, “Women of Erva-Mate – Work, Struggle, and Resistance,” we present a conversation with Silvia Mara Woiciechowski, Sonia Muniz, and Sivone Ernst, farmers and local leaders, moderated by researcher Renata Borges Kempf. The interview took place on Sonia’s property in Rebouças, Paraná, Brazil. Sonia is a producer of organic, shade-grown erva-mate.
In the conversation, the guests share the perspective of women farmers within traditional systems, addressing the challenges faced in their daily lives, the struggle for space in the rural communities, and the strength of collective organization.
Together, they also discuss the importance of women’s leadership in preserving traditional systems, highlighting the essential role of women in agriculture, local culture and the building of a more sustainable future.
